Anything For Her: Film Review
2009-06-06 09:26:58
Jail-break films have come and gone, it's a familiar and much repeated genre. Anything For Her however, breaks all the rules. It's a compelling, engaging and emotional take on an otherwise all-too-familiar tale. At the risk of sounding dramatic; never has a film moved me so much in so little time. Literally within seconds of the titles rolling, I found myself caught up in the emotions laid bare upon the screen.Anything For Her is the tale of a woman who is wrongly accused of murder. The evidence is stacked against her and she's incarcerated. At his wits end, her husband takes matters into his own hands and engineers her escape.
Captivating nuances set this film apart from the rest
It's a straightforward story, undertaken fairly directly. But there are certain captivating nuances that set this film apart from the rest. The opening scene sees the happy couple at home with their son. It's a charming portrayal of a family unit reinforced by a fiery and passionate love.
It sounds like the kind of stuff to make a teenage boy sick with embarrassment, but there's little trace of cheesy cliché in the film's entirety. Crucially, and amazingly, director & writer Fred Cavayé manages to impart a deep and lasting bond between the audience and the characters, which is immediately put to the test as the police burst in on the family. The toddler sitting in his high-chair screaming as his parents are manhandled is a haunting image, and one which will move all but the most heartless cinema-goers.
This tense thriller packs the punches in more ways than one
The film that follows is adrenaline-fuelled, clever and classy. It's like the Bourne series without the training, an ordinary man's fight to beat the system. Bourne, but where the audience have real compassion towards the character on screen and a heart-wrenching sympathy as he tries to raise his son without a mother, and a wife. Perhaps appearing at first as unremarkable, this tense thriller packs the punches more ways than one and definitely won't leave you disappointed.
