Stop Press: Control Gala Screening
2007-09-22 09:21:19
A gala screening of Control, the eagerly-anticipated biopic of the enigmatic but hugely influential Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis, will take place at Nottingham's Broadway Cinema on Wednesday 3 October at 8.30pm.Nottingham-born designer Paul Smith will introduce the film and director Anton Corbin and several cast members will take part in a Q&A session after the screening.
Control tells the story of the late Ian Curtis, frontman of legendary band Joy Division, and is a powerful and evocative tribute to a great music legend. Spanning Curtis' reclusive teenage years, documenting his struggle with epilepsy, the loving but ill-fated relationship with wife Deborah, his affair with Belgian lover Annik and the lead-up to his tragic suicide on 18 May 1980, this film reaches far beyond the music that became Curtis' legacy.
Contol also features the Oscar-nominated Nottingham actress Samantha Morton (as Curtis' wife Deborah) and was filmed in the city over summer 2006. The film marks the directorial debut of Anton Corbijn, one of rock music's most illustrious photographers. Control won the Michael Powell Award for Best British Feature at this year's Edinburgh International Film Festival. Control is on nationwide release from Friday October 5.
